The first phase of the Berbera port expansion project was inaugurated in the presence of Somaliland President Musa Bihi, FDRE High Representative and DP World Director Sultan bin Suleiman.





The first phase of the Berbera Terminal Cord Expansion Project, owned by DP World 51% in Somaliland, 30% in Somaliland and 19% in Ethiopia, is capable of handling 500,000 containers and can handle one million containers a year.





The port is equipped with modern cranes and will be of great benefit to the region, especially Ethiopia, by hosting large ships from today.
Speaking on the occasion, FDRE Minister of Transport, Dagmawit Moges, said the opening of Berbera port is important for the economy as Ethiopia has formulated a 10-year economic plan and it is necessary to develop and use ports to increase Ethiopia's revenue and revenue.





Ahmed Shede, Minister of Finance of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, on his part said the launch of the first round of terminal work at Berbera Port will boost economic integration in the region and Ethiopia will participate in the ongoing work on the port of Berbera.
Ahmed Shede said Ethiopia will benefit from the port of Berbera, especially the Somali region.





Deputy Chief of the Somali Regional State, Mustafa Mohamed, on his part said the development of Somaliland is the development of Ethiopia, especially the Somali region, adding that the port of Berbera is of great benefit to the people of the region.
The President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi, on his part said Ethiopia will provide standard port services to Ethiopia, especially in the Somali region, and goods will be delivered safely to their destinations.
The port of Berbera has officially started operations by unloading containers bound for Addis Ababa today, Somali Media reported.
